Nigeria’s Economy May Slip Into Recession, CBN Warns

Image
From the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday came a warning shot on the economy: Nigeria risks sliding into recession next year. The apex bank also hinted that the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) might affect the country’s economic growth. Speaking yesterday at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja , CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele lamented that with “two consecutive quarters of slow growth, the economy could slip into recession in 2016 if proactive steps are not taken to revive growth in key sectors of the economy.” Emefiele added: “The overall economic environment remains fragile. The economy further slowed in the second quarter of the year, making it the second consecutive quarterly less-than-expected performance.” In the face of the prevailing circumstances, the MPC advocated that a “synergy between monetary and fiscal policies remains the most potent option to sustainable growth.” The committee specifically

Salaries: Ondo Workers Protest

Ondo State workers yesterday in Akure, the state capital, marched on the office of the accountant general at Alagbaka to demand for payment of their three- month salary arrears The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions, such as “Ondo Government, where is our bailout money?”; “Accountant General must go”; “N14:68bn bailout fund fixed by Mimiko”; “Hardship is getting worse”, among others. The protest was led by the state Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Sunday Adeleye. He decried the government’s failure to pay their salaries, despite receiving bailout fund from the Federal Government. Adeleye gave the government 24 hours to pay all outstanding salaries and deductions. He called for the removal of the accountant general for allegedly refusing to pay their outstanding salaries. Addressing the protesters, Head of Service Toyin Akinkuotu assured that the workers would receive their salaries soon. Akinkuotu said all outstanding salar

Kashamu Seeks To Stop Fed Govt From Seizing N20b Property •NDLEA asks judge to hands off trial

Image
Senator Buruji Kashamu has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to restrain the Federal Government from seizing his property worth N20 billion for alleged drug trafficking allegations. In a fresh application, he sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Attorney-General of the Federation from taking possession of his property. The application is before Justice Ibrahim Buba, who had restrained the NDLEA from arresting or extraditing Kashamu to the United States of America, where he is allegedly wanted. But NDLEA has asked the judge to hands off the trial. The agency said since Justice Buba, on June 23, reaffirmed a May 27 order by Justice Okon Abang of the same court stopping Kashamu’s arrest, he might not be fair in the case. Its lawyer, Mr. J. N. Sunday, claimed the injunction amounted to preventing federal agencies from discharging their constitutional duties. NDLEA asked the judge to wi

Sallah: Muslims Defy Leaders Order, Collect Fayose’s Rams In Ekiti

Image
Stomach infrastructure will never end in Nigeria! Ado Ekiti—Muslims in Ekiti yesterday defied the directive of some of their leaders not to collect Sallah gifts from Governor Ayo Fayose, as they trooped to the government house in Ado Ekiti to collect the rams distributed by the governor for Eid-el-Kabir celebration. This contravened the order earlier issued by Muslim leaders, under the auspices of League of Imams and Alfas, Ekiti State, which urged members t o reject the gifts on the strength that their members were not adequately represented in Fayose’s appointments. Though, another group had countered the League of Imams and Alfas for that action, describing those behind the attack as impostors, who were not known in Islam circle. While distributing the rams to Imams and other top dignitaries, Fayose said he won’t allow himself to be dragged into playing politics with religion in the state. The governor urged Muslims to prevent themselves from being used as

We Will Surely Miss Ndoma-Egba – PDP Begs Former Senate Leader To Come Back

Image
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Cross Rivers State chapter, John Okon, has admitted that the party would surely miss former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba. Okon described the defection of the former senate leader from the party as sad and painful. He further noted that Ndoma-Egba’s exit from the PDP was a huge shock to the former ruling party, considering his status in the country and his contributions to the last Senate. He stated this while addressing newsmen in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. His words, “Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba’s exit from the party is painful because we did not believe that he would leave. But I must say that since he lost the November primary last year, his spirit was out of the party. “The former Senate Leader is my personal friend. I have nothing against him and he lost to a formidable contender who is a grass-root person. Remember that the election was decided by the people of the central senatorial distri

Burkina Faso Coup: Michel Kafando Reinstated As president

Image
There were cheers for President Kafando at the ceremony reinstating civilian rule Burkina Faso's interim President Michel Kafando has been formally reinstated a week after the military takeover. The ceremony took place in the capital, Ouagadougou, in the presence of several West African leaders who helped mediate an end to the crisis. It comes a day after the presidential guard, who were behind the coup, signed a deal with the regular army to avoid violence. They pledged to return to barracks and the army to withdraw from the capital. The presidential guard (RSP) is loyal to Blaise Compaore, the country's long-time ruler who was ousted in a popular uprising last year. The elite troops installed Gen Gilbert Diendere as the leader last week - a month before elections had been due in the landlocked country. The army on Monday ordered the coup leaders to step down or be ousted by force, raising the spectre of a civil war. At least 10 people have been killed

I always knew we live in a crazy world and reading news like this makes me realise that the world has not just gone crazy but completely insane. In time to come we will be hearing news like gay couple rape their adopted son that's when we will realise that staying alive is a big risk. A Missouri couple allegedly held a 16-year-old boy down and raped him as part of a foursome also involving a young woman, police said. Laura Bentley was charged last week with sodomy, while Jason Schlueter was charged with sodomy and rape, police records show. The teen told police he was raped by the couple in their Carrollton home in late August or early September, while their four young children were home, according to charging documents. Kourtney Kardashian gets emotional on KUWTK after break up with Scott Disick

Its not easy being in love and putting up with an alcoholic and a serial cheater, as much as i feel pity for the Kourtney Kardashian i think it took her too longh to end the relationship she kept thinking that the love she feels for him and having a kids together will make him a changed person but as we can all see that did not work. It is not wise going into a relationship with some one with a questionable character and expecting that the love you feel for them will make them change, lastly a baby cannot mend the broken relationship between two adults.  Keeping Up With The Kardashians viewers will get to see how hurt Kourtney Kardashian was after she learned of Scott Disick's cheating rumours via Daily Mail.
