According to a new report, singer Aretha Franklin is seriously ill. The Queen of Soul is 76 years old. Entertainment reporter   Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411   was first to address new concerns over Franklin’s health on Sunday, saying that the 18-time Grammy winner is  “gravely ill in Detroit.”  Friedman did not disclose details of Franklin’s illness, but added that her family is “asking for prayers and privacy.”

The College of William & Mary’s board has voted to rescind Bill Cosby’s honorary degree after the comedian’s conviction for sexual assault.  “The William & Mary Board of Visitors voted today to rescind the honorary Master of Arts degree awarded to Bill Cosby in 1993,” the university, in Williamsburg, Virginia, said in a statement on Friday. “Since that degree was bestowed, information came to light and was confirmed that Mr. Cosby engaged in abhorrent conduct antithetical to our university’s core values.” The statement added that the university is “committed to both the elimination of sexual violence and the adherence to due process.”  A suburban Philadelphia jury in April found Cosby guilty on three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault related to accusations that he drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand, a former women’s basketball coach at Temple University, in 2004.  William & Mary is the l...

The Nigeria Women’s U-20 team, the Falconets, have qualified for the quarter-final stage of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup taking place in France. A last-ditch effort from Rasheedat Ajibade saved Nigeria from exiting the cadet Women Cup as the Falconets forced China to a 1-1 draw. Just before the break, L.Y. Zhang had put China ahead and they held on to their slim till the later stages The Asians were stronger in defence in the second half as the Nigerian girls continued to push for an equalizer. With Five minutes added at the end of regulation time,  the Falconets gave the last push and their effort was rewarded as Ajibade scored to bring the tie to a 1-1 draw and qualify the team for the quarter-final. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has praised the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the National Film and Video Censors Board for the clampdown on Falz’s ‘This Is Nigeria’. In a statement released on Monday by Ishaq Akintola, MURIC director, the group claimed it was their petition to NBC that made the agency ban the song. “We asked Falz to withdraw the video or we would sue him,” the statement read. “Instead of showing remorse he dared us. We knew he could delay the court case for years because he is a lawyer and he would use every trick in the books to frustrate us. That was why he was boasting. “Therefore, instead of going to court, we decided to ambush him by sending a petition to the video board. The Edo State Police Command has detained, and promised to prosecute officers who allegedly collected N100,000 from a building contractor after threatening to kill him if he doesn’t oblige. Emmanuel Alabede had told Punch about what the officers did to him when he was travelling from Ibadan to Abuja and his story was published on July 17, 2018. Alabede said officers attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command stopped the commercial vehicle he was in along the Ibilo-Okene Expressway and they proceeded to search the bags of passengers. While going through his phone, a credit alert of N200,000 popped up on the screen and the officers threatened to kill him if he doesn’t give them part of it. He told Punch that he withdrew the N100,000 from a Point of Sale (POS) operator nearby and gave to the officers.
