Florida hospital security guard who goes by 'Paul Flart' online fired after documenting his farts at work for six months
If you genuinely love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life, as the saying goes.
For six months, Doug, 31, a security guard, filled visitors with joy and a hospital lobby with farts, but in the end, it cost him his job.
As first reported by Vice, Doug (who did not wish to give his last name or the hospital where he works) moved from New Jersey to Florida to help his mother after his father died. Once in the Sunshine State, he decided to get a license to become a security guard. He won people over with his easygoing attitude, charm, and humor, and he was quickly placed as the first point of contact for those visiting the hospital. But sitting at the front desk can include some hours filled with drudgery, which leads to boredom.
“The lobby has really great acoustics, and naturally, we all fart,” Doug told Vice. “One day I ripped a rather nice one and got really good sound from it, so the next time it happened I recorded it and sent it to my group chat.”
And thus, the hero we deserve was born: Paul Flart.
Since March 25, 2018, Doug had been posting videos of his flatulence to a small following, which seemingly exploded in August, thanks to someone on Reddit posting acompilation of his farts.
Sadly, on Thursday morning, Paul Flart was asked to turn in his badge.
During an Instagram Live video, Doug filmed himself being addressed by his supervisor, who ultimately fired him. “It’s come to our attention that you recorded yourself, in our uniform, on the client’s property,” the supervisor says. In his defense, Doug says, “I never showed any logos or anything.” Still, he is let go. “That’s it,” Doug says in the video, “we lost the job, guys.”
“We’re going to keep making content. We can do Paul Flart on vacation, you know, throw in like a Hawaiian shirt and a hat of some sort and then just fart around Florida. We’re just going to keep going,” he told Vice.
Paul Flart is a modern Icarus who dared to fly too near the sun.
